In this lesson you will be using Eighth Note Triplets with your feet to create patterns that are quite demanding in terms of speed and stamina. Whilst you are playing triplets on the feet, your hands will be doing a variety of different things to mix up the patterns.
Exercise 1
Here you a playing straight triplets on the hand and two sets of triplets on the feet. Notice that for the sticking I have included single and double strokes.
Exercise 2
This is a similar pattern to exercise 1 but you have now moved the triplets.
Exercise 3
Here you are playing continuous eighth note triplets on the feet. It would be worth starting slow and gradually building up speed.
Exercise 4
This takes the foot pattern from exercise 1 and applies it to a groove.
Exercise 5
A similar groove pattern with more feet added.
TASK
- Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of at least 120bpm. Don't be afraid to start slow.
- Create your own variations on these patterns. Write as many down as possible.
