In this lesson I will be showing you how the double stroke triplet can be applied to grooves in a very similar way to the 16 Beat construction method. This will essentially be a simple orchestration of the double stroke triplet with some kicks added underneath. Because the rudiment is played as eighth note triplets the kicks will have a swung feel.
The basis of this groove concept is playing a double stroke triplet sticking on the hi hats. On counts 2 and 4 you will then move over to the snare and the hand that does this switches on counts two and four. I have included sticking to clarify how the hands fall.
Before progressing to the grooves below, make sure you are comfortable with the hand placement. The selection of examples that follow all use this sticking and have kicks applied at various points. These start simple and get progressively more difficult. I have excluded any 16th notes to avoid the parts getting to complex, we'll look at that in another lesson.
