In this lesson you will be applying three different single stroke 9 stickings in the time signature of 3/4. If we alter the rhythm slightly this actually fits really nicely and you can see this in the first example. When the original rhythm is applied, a syncopated rhythm is created and this takes four bars for the start of the rudiment to line up with the start of the bar. Things get even more interesting if we use the shorter version of the rhythm that ends on a quaver. This version takes five bars to get back in sync again.

As with all rudiment exercises, use this to develop your technique. You should also ensure all dynamic levels are even.

  • Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of 140bpm.
  • Try adding feet as both eighth and quarter notes.

  • Extend the pattern over several bars.
