Basic Paradiddle Groove In Half Time

This lesson is a continuation from the Basic Paradiddle Groove, it is fairly essential that you read this lesson first to understand the basic principle of the groove.

Creating the half time version of this groove from the common time version works exactly the same as with any other groove, switch the snares from being on beats 2 and 4 and just play one on beat 3. So you will not play a full paradiddle with the right hand on the ride and the left on the hi hat, then do exactly the same in the second half of the bar but with a snare on the first beat. The hands for the groove look like this:

In the common time version of the groove the snares were played with the left hand, and that moved from the hi hat. This time the snares fall with the right hand, meaning the you move from the ride to the snare. Spend some time getting familiar with the hands for the groove before proceeding the add bass drums.

Full Groove Examples

Adding kicks will be very similar to the previous lesson. I won't give anything too complex here, just simple eighth and quarter note style patterns. In later lessons you will learn about sixteenth note kick and snare placement as well as other more complex ideas.
