Dotted Crotchet Right Hand In 6/8 Grooves

Back in our Introduction To Grooves lesson you built some 4/4 grooves based on a rhythm then applied both crotchet and quavers on the right hand. You have already covered eighth note right hand parts in our first 6/8 groove lesson and now you will be changing these in a similar way to the 4/4 crotchet grooves. Because you are playing in 6/8, crotchets aren't really part of the natural grouping of the time signature so instead you will be using dotted crotchets. This leaves you with only two right hand hits in the bar, on counts 1 and 4, so this style of groove has a lot of 'space' in it.

Applying the idea is quite simple, just make sure you count the bar correctly. Written below are a few examples of 6/8 grooves with dotted crotchets on the right hand.
