Four Stroke Ruff With Swung Eighth Note Feet

In this lesson you will be applying a swung eighth note rhythm across the two feet underneath the four stroke ruff. To play a swung eighth rhythm you will place notes on the first and last of a triplet, you can find a lesson on this at the bottom of the page.

In the examples below I have used various versions of the rhythm. If you are unsure of the placements, try to latch the foot on to the appropriate hand. Use the given examples as a starting point to create your own parts.

TASKS

  1. Using the 2 minute rule, get all exercises up to a tempo of 150bpm with good hand technique.
  2. Use all three sticking patterns with each exercise.
  3. Create your own feet patterns for the exercises.
  4. Play all 5 exercises as a continuous 5 bar pattern, then repeat.
