Sticking For The Single Stroke Seven

The single stroke 7 is based on the same concept as the Single Stroke 4 and Single Stroke 5 in that it's a short burst of single stroke roll over a set number of strokes. In this case it is made up of six sixteenth note triplets and a quarter note. To get more familiar with this you could drop this down to eighth note triplets if you really need to.

As in the lessons linked above, there are two versions of the single stroke 7. The first starts on the beat and the second ends on the beat. For both of these rhythms there are three stickings you should learn which are the standard, reverse and alternating sticking. These are all listed below.

Exercise 1

A Single Stroke Seven starting on the beat starting on the right hand.

A single stroke 7 in standard sticking.

Exercise 2

A Single Stroke Seven starting on the beat starting on the left hand.

A single stroke 7 in reverse sticking.

Exercise 3

A Single Stroke Seven starting on the beat with alternating sticking.

A single stroke 7 in alternate sticking.

Exercise 4

A Single Stroke Seven ending on the beat starting on the right hand.

A single stroke 7 in standard sticking.

Exercise 5

A Single Stroke Seven ending on the beat starting on the left hand.

A single stroke 7 in reverse sticking.

Exercise 6

A Single Stroke Seven ending on the beat with alternate sticking.
