The fills in this lesson will all follow the 'R L L F' sticking and will involve moving the right hand to different parts of the kit. The twist here is that you will be playing the exercise in 6/8 to create some syncopated patterns If you have covered the linked lesson these fills will be very easy as very little is changing other than the time signature. You can see the exercise on playing this rhythm Here and there is a similar lesson that moves the sticking pattern around the kit Here.
In each example you will be presented with a variation on the basic pattern that you can apply as a fill. In some cases accents and ghost notes are used, some use all non accented notes and some use a mixture. A note on the concept used for each example has been given to help you create further variations. You will notice that the concepts used here are very similar to the lesson on the pattern in 4/4.
Example 1
Using accents and ghost notes, keep all right hands on the snare except one which will be played in a tom.
Example 2
Move two right hands to toms.
Example 3
Play all right hands on one tom.
Example 4
Move the right hand clockwise around the kit.
Example 5
Move the right hand anti clockwise around the kit.
Example 6
Use a combination of ride bells, hi hats, snares and ghosted snares.
